Botany
The almond tree is a deciduous plant native to southwest Asia. It grows to a height of seven meters, with a taproot and a trunk that is initially straight and smooth, gray in color, later becoming twisted, cracked, and dark. The leaves are lanceolate and petiolate. The flowers, which bloom in early spring, are white or slightly pink. The fruit is a drupe containing the seed, the almond, with a woody shell covered by a green husk. It grows very slowly and is a very long-lived species (it can live for several centuries).
