Resins and balms

High-quality grain incense from the most ancient ports of the Middle East.
Frankincense is by far the most well-known aromatic resin; it consists of the latex that oozes from the bark of various species of Boswellia (Burseracee), dried by exposure to air and sun.
Its ritual and purifying uses are lost in the mists of time.
The high quality of our incense is due to the rigorous selection of the original plantations in East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, as well as the careful selection of the packaged grains; Those that are too fine and/or dusty are discarded as they constitute the lowest-quality fraction of the harvest, as the resin is much more oxidized and altered.

Description

Styrax benzoin is a tree of considerable size (up to twenty meters tall) that grows exclusively in tropical Asia. When cut, its trunk exudes a pathological serum that then hardens in the air and sun, forming solid masses with a characteristic yellow-orange color. These masses, collected as they are from the trees, constitute Benzoin Gum (also known as Javan Incense), with its characteristic sweet, balsamic scent. Of the two varieties on the market, the only one known to be highly prized is the Siam variety, mostly sourced from the Malacca Peninsula.
For millennia, in the East, it has been believed that the pleasant fumigation produced by burning Benzoin Gum drives away any adversity from the home.

Property

Benzoin gum is known for its antiseptic, healing and soothing properties.

Uses

In China, benzoin gum resin has been used for millennia for medicinal purposes (digestive, antiseptic, etc.); today, both an alcoholic tincture and an absolute with fixing properties are extracted from it: both are sought-after raw materials for perfumery and cosmetics. As such, it has been used for centuries to obtain medicinal fumigations and even in the preparation of incense (it is the basic ingredient of the famous "Papiér d'Armenie", the French medicinal aromatic paper). Its herbal use is now obsolete.

Botany

Native to tropical Asia (mainly Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia) where it grows exclusively, Benzoin consists of a large tree up to twenty metres tall, with light green downy leaves, white umbel flowers and drupe-like fruits.
