Resins and balms

High-quality grain incense from the most ancient ports of the Middle East.
Frankincense is by far the most well-known aromatic resin; it consists of the latex that oozes from the bark of various species of Boswellia (Burseracee), dried by exposure to air and sun.
Its ritual and purifying uses are lost in the mists of time.
The high quality of our incense is due to the rigorous selection of the original plantations in East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, as well as the careful selection of the packaged grains; Those that are too fine and/or dusty are discarded as they constitute the lowest-quality fraction of the harvest, as the resin is much more oxidized and altered.

Description

Known since ancient times, Black Styrax is the prized and famous aromatic balm of Asia Minor; it is obtained from Liquidambar orientalis, a tall plant that grows in the impenetrable Anatolian forests of Marmaris.
Even today, its production is carried out according to the original procedure: vigorously beaten, the plant generates a dense pathological serum (styrax resinoid, a renowned raw material in perfumery) within a few weeks. This is then removed to mix it with the bark of the trunk (previously crushed); the whole thing then remains buried for several months. The "fortunate" maceration that results gives rise to the highly fragrant Black Styrax. For time immemorial, this balm has been burned together with incense, or used as such as an effective deodorant: in any case, it will inebriate the room with its oriental and unmistakable sweet-amber scent.

Botany

Also known as "Levantine Storax" or "Oriental Sweetgum", Liquidambar orientalis is a beautiful deciduous tree native to Asia Minor. It grows to a height of fifteen meters and features grayish-purple bark, three-lobed leaves, and white flowers. The pathological secretion produced by the beaten bark constitutes the well-known aromatic resin: storax.
