Frankincense is by far the most well-known aromatic resin; it consists of the latex that oozes from the bark of various species of Boswellia (Burseracee), dried by exposure to air and sun.
Its ritual and purifying uses are lost in the mists of time.
The high quality of our incense is due to the rigorous selection of the original plantations in East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, as well as the careful selection of the packaged grains; Those that are too fine and/or dusty are discarded as they constitute the lowest-quality fraction of the harvest, as the resin is much more oxidized and altered.

Description

Originating from the oldest ports on the Red Sea, natural incense consists of the latex that drips — through incisions — from the bark of certain shrubs belonging to the Boswellia genus (belonging to the Burseraceae family), dried after exposure to air and sun. In particular, Arabian Frankincense consists of the latex that drips from the incised bark of Boswellia carteri, the species that is known to produce the most valuable resin among the shrubs of the Boswellia genus.
These shrubs grow exclusively in East Africa and, to a limited extent, on the Arabian Peninsula.
The pleasant and unmistakable aroma that this incense releases when burned is due not only to its high botanical value but also to the rigorous selection of the wild plants from which it originates.
The ritual and purifying use of this aromatic resin is lost in the mists of time.

Botany

Native to the regions bordering the Red Sea, Frankincense is also known as Olibanum or Gommathus. It is a graceful small tree with rich foliage and pinkish-white flowers that grows wild throughout northeastern Africa. The resin it produces is harvested primarily in Ethiopia, Somalia, and southern Arabia.
