Extraction

Star anise essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the partially dried fruits and appears as a clear, light yellow liquid with a distinctive sweet, spicy, licorice-like scent.

Property

Star Anise essential oil harmonizes excellently with the essential oils of: Dill, Green Anise, Caraway, Elemi, Mint, Nutmeg, citrus oils and spice oils.

Uses

Star anise essential oil, non-toxic and non-irritating, can be slightly narcotic if used in excessive quantities ; it has stimulant and expectorant properties.
It is used as a flavoring in both toothpastes and various types of pharmaceutical preparations. It is also widely used as a fragrance component to perfume soaps, detergents, and cosmetics, as well as in the food industry (confectionery and beverages).

Botany

Native to tropical Asia, star anise is also known as "Anise badiana". It grows wild in southeastern China, Vietnam, India, and Japan.
It is a tropical evergreen tree with a slender trunk up to twelve meters tall. It produces characteristic star-shaped fruits containing up to thirty seeds.
