Petitgrain essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of leaves and twigs and appears as a clear amber-yellow liquid with a floral, fresh, herbaceous scent with a dry, woody undertone.
Property
Petitgrain essential oil, non-toxic and non-irritating, owes its name to the fact that it was once extracted from unripe green oranges when they were still tiny, or "small grains".
Like almost all essential oils extracted from citrus fruits, Petitgrain is also a true natural antidepressant that also has a tonic effect.
It blends well with the essential oils of: Cedar, Eucalyptus, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Marjoram, Niaouli, Rosemary, Sage, and Tea Tree.

Botany
Native to the Far East, Petitgrain is also known as "Bigaradia". It is a small evergreen tree up to ten meters tall, with a smooth trunk and branches, oval, glossy dark green leaves, long thorns, and fragrant white flowers. The fruit is smaller and darker than that of the common sweet orange.
