Extraction

Magnolia flower essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of fresh flowers and appears as a transparent brown liquid that releases a characteristic herbaceous-floral scent with a green and lively note.

Property

Long known for its antioxidant and antibacterial properties, Magnolia flower extract has been a traditional Chinese medicine remedy for centuries. It is a natural medicine indicated for the treatment of digestive disorders, anxiety, and allergic diseases, as well as for the management of "qi" (energy) stagnation.
Unfortunately, much of the market offers similar and/or counterfeit Magnolia oils. The pure and natural essential oil extracted from the Magnolia flower is an extremely rare distillate, yet valuable due to its unique content of magnolol: a unique polyphenol with powerful antioxidant properties, believed, following specific research, to be up to a thousand times more active and effective than vitamin E. Applied directly to the skin, this essential oil counteracts the spread of free radicals, thus exerting an anti-inflammatory effect that slows the natural aging process of the skin, characterized by the development of wrinkles.
It harmonizes well with the essential oils of: Ambrette, Green Anise, Artemisia, Hemp, Carrot Seed, Coriander, Rosewood, Pink Pepper, Palmarosa and Liquid Styrax.

Uses

Being a rather rare raw material, the essential oil obtained from magnolia flowers is used sporadically in pharmacy (as a lightener/whitener for dark spots and skin pigmentation) and in luxury cosmetics as a powerful anti-wrinkle agent. However, there are no reports of significant uses of this essential oil in other sectors.
The relevant technical and safety documentation for the product is available upon request.

Botany

Native to the southeastern United States, it is also known as the "evergreen magnolia"; it is commonly found in parks and gardens around the world as an ornamental plant.
It is a very long-lived evergreen tree, with leathery leaves, large white flowers (very fragrant and with edible petals), conical inflorescences, and a pyramidal crown that reaches up to thirty meters in height. Its growth is very slow and can last for several centuries.
