Extraction

Juniper essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the berries, needles, and wood. It appears as a nearly colorless liquid with a sweet, fresh, woody, and spicy scent.

Property

Juniper essential oil, generally non-toxic, can be mildly irritating. It has proven antimicrobial (disinfectant), expectorant, antiseptic, rubefacient, and deodorant properties. An excellent insect repellent (a property that can also be exploited using a diffuser), it is often effective in treating eczema.
It blends well with the essential oils of fir, benzoin, cedar, cistus, cypress, elemi, lavender, cedarwood, mastic, pine, ravensara, clary sage, sandalwood, vetiver, citrus oils, and oakmoss absolute.

Uses

Juniper essential oil is used as a fragrance component in soaps, detergents, and cosmetics, as well as in the alcoholic beverage industry (for example, juniper is used to create the flavoring in "Gin").
The relevant technical and safety documentation for the product is available upon request.

Botany

Native to the Northern Hemisphere, juniper grows in Scandinavia, Siberia, Canada, and Northern Europe, both in arid and wooded areas.
It is an evergreen shrub that grows up to six meters tall with narrow, stiff, needle-like leaves of a bluish-green color.
