Extraction

Elemi essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the resin resulting from the solidification of pathological exudate. It appears as a colorless (or vaguely yellowish) liquid with a characteristic fresh scent with spicy-balsamic undertones.

Property

Non-toxic and non-irritating, elemi essential oil has antiseptic, healing, expectorant, stimulant, and deodorant properties.
In ancient times, it was an important aromatic raw material (even used by the Egyptians in embalming).
In the recent past, this essential oil was used—with excellent results—to treat infected wounds and skin inflammation in general.
It blends well with myrrh absolute as well as the essential oils of agarwood, cinnamon, cistus, copaiba, frankincense, lavender, olibanum, opoponax, rosemary, and sage.

Uses

Elemi essential oil is currently used as a fixative in fragrances that deodorize soaps, detergents, and cosmetics, as well as (occasionally) as a flavoring ingredient in the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage industry.
The relevant technical and safety documentation for the product is available upon request.

Botany

Native to the Philippines and the Moluccas, the elemi is a tropical tree that grows up to thirty meters tall. It grows mostly on the island of Luzon.
