Extraction

Mountain pine essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of needles and twigs. It is a clear, colorless liquid with a sweet, balsamic-woody scent with a spicy undertone.

Property

Mountain pine (or pumilio) essential oil, although non-toxic, is a skin irritant. It is the most valuable pine essence and the absolute favorite in perfumery due to its delicate nature, which makes it blend well in fragrances. It has antitussive, expectorant, antiseptic, antiviral, balsamic, rubefacient, and deodorant properties.
It blends well with the essential oils of cedar, cistus, juniper, lavender, ravensara, rosemary, sage, ylang-ylang, and with conifer oils in general.

Uses

In addition to its use in pharmaceutical preparations to combat coughs, rhinitis, and colds, mountain pine essential oil is commonly used in cosmetics and soap making to create "leathery" and "woody" fragrances.
The relevant technical and safety documentation for the product is available upon request.

Botany

Also known as the "Alpine Pine" or "Pumilio Pine", the mountain pine is native to the mountainous regions of central and southern Europe. It is a pyramidal evergreen shrub that grows up to twelve meters tall, with dark gray bark, stiff, dark green needle-like leaves gathered in clusters, and small, oval-conical cones.
