Extraction

Cinnamon bark essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the dried inner bark and appears as an amber liquid with an unmistakable and strong spicy, sweet, warm, dry and tenacious odor.

Property

Cinnamon bark essential oil should be used with caution as it is toxic and an irritant. It has numerous medicinal properties, being antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiputrefactive, aphrodisiac, astringent, hemostatic, parasiticide, coolant, stimulant, and vermifuge. It is also excellent for combating mental fatigue and nervous tension.
It blends well with the essential oils of Orange, Frankincense, Mandarin, Olibanum, Ylang-ylang, and Benzoin absolute.

Uses

The essential oil extracted from cinnamon bark is used in the production of soaps, cosmetics, and perfumes with a spicy note.

Botany

Native to Madagascar, Ceylon, and Indochina, cinnamon is now also cultivated in India, Jamaica, and Africa. It is a tropical evergreen tree up to fifteen meters tall, with sturdy branches, thick bark, leathery, glossy green leaves, and small white flowers.
