Extraction

Carrot essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the dried seeds and appears as a light yellow liquid with a characteristic warm, woody-earthy, decidedly dry scent.

Property

Carrot seed essential oil, non-toxic and non-irritating, is an effective remedy for treating eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis.
Its toning properties also help combat wrinkles and stretch marks on mature skin.
It blends well with cedar, clove, and geranium essential oils, as well as citrus and spice oils.

Uses

The essential oil obtained from carrot seeds is used as a fragrance component in perfumery, cosmetics, detergents, and soaps, and is also used as a flavoring in sauces, condiments, and many other food products.

Botany

Growing wild in Europe, Asia, and North Africa, the carrot has become naturalized throughout North America.
It is a herbaceous plant with a highly branched stem, up to a meter and a half tall, with hairy leaves and large, globular umbels containing umbels of small white flowers. It has a tough, cylindrical, yellow-orange taproot.
