Extraction

Amyris essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the wood and chopped branches (preferably seasoned). It appears as a viscous, almost colorless or straw-colored liquid with a faint woody scent reminiscent of sandalwood.

Property

Amyris essential oil, completely non-irritating, has antiseptic, balsamic, emollient, and sedative properties.
It harmonizes perfectly with oakmoss absolute, all woody oils, as well as the essential oils of agarwood, cedar, citronella, lavender, nutmeg, and ylang-ylang.

Uses

Amyris essential oil has long been used as a valuable fixative in soap making and in perfumery and cosmetics as a cost-effective substitute for the much more valuable sandalwood essential oil.
The relevant technical and safety documentation for the product is available upon request.

Botany

Also known as West Indian Sandalwood and often confused with Citrine Sandalwood, Amyris is a plant native to the woody regions of Haiti, where it has always been called "candlewood" because, thanks to its high oil content, its wood burns slowly, just like a candle. It is a small, bushy evergreen tree that thrives on mountain slopes; it has aromatic bark, composite foliage, and beautiful white flowers.
