Description

The essence of Indian Spikenard flower - a refined personal perfume - represents a precious composition of high perfumery with a characteristic sweet, woody, very warm, almost "animal" scent, with a strong floral undertone. To conceive it, we were inspired by the description of the note released by the old "Nardinium", one of the most famous and described perfumes of antiquity, prepared, at the time, by the "unguentarii" (i.e. the master perfumers of ancient Rome) starting from the natural concrete extracted from the fresh flowers of the plant.

Our exclusive 13.5 ml. (0.46 fl. oz.) bottle in special transparent neutral glass enhances the chromatic properties of the various oils: each is visible in its natural color, completely unique like the scent it releases. Each bottle is equipped with a special heat-shrinkable transparent polymer seal to guarantee (in accordance with the regulations) its tamper-evident integrity.

Property

Spikenard was among the first aromatic materials used by the ancient Egyptians. Also mentioned in the Bible (Song of Solomon), it is known as the plant whose oil was used by Mary to anoint Jesus before the Last Supper. Even today, spikenard is one of the eleven herbs used for ritual fumigations in the Temple of Jerusalem.
The enchanting natural oil extracted from spikenard flowers, which inspired the formulation of our fragrance, has been extinct for centuries because no one produces it anymore. The only natural essential oil extracted from this plant available today is obtained by steam distillation of the dried and pressed rhizomes and roots. Completely non-toxic and non-irritating, it appears as a yellow-amber liquid with a fetid odor. It is a difficult-to-find product, but above all, it is difficult to use from an olfactory perspective due to its strong odor, despite its anti-inflammatory, tonic, bactericidal, and fungicidal properties.

Uses

Our Nardo flower essence is used in both fine perfumery and luxury cosmetics.

Botany

Native to the mountainous regions of northern India, spikenard is a delicate, aromatic herb growing up to one meter tall, with pink flowers and pungent rhizomatous roots. It grows up to 5,000 meters above sea level on the mountain slopes of the Himalayas and Hindu Kush, as well as in the mountainous regions of Sikkim and the Pamirs, but is also found in China and Japan.
