Description

Our Ambergris fragrance is an ochre-yellow liquid with an intense, sweet-musky scent, very warm, oriental, and exceptionally long-lasting. Made with the finest raw materials actually present in natural amber, it impeccably exudes the scent of amber when dried.
Ambergris is the name given to a highly odorous grayish substance that accumulates as a concretion in the intestines of the sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus).
These large cetaceans feed on cephalopod mollusks, animals with particularly indigestible horny beaks that can inflame the predator's intestines. To remedy this, the same organ secretes an absorbent substance, which quickly hardens around the mollusks' beaks, forming a solid mass capable of soothing any irritation: this is Ambergris.
When fresh, it is black in color and has an unpleasant odor. Dried in the sun, it turns gray and takes on a waxy consistency, along with a delicious scent that at times recalls tobacco. The waves wash it up on the beaches of the Moluccas and Madagascar, often after months of drifting in the Indian Ocean. It is one of the most prized animal-derived fragrances in ancient perfumery.
When burned, it releases a strong, distinctive musky odor; for this reason, it has long been a highly sought-after raw material for perfumes. Ambergris' most significant property
is its fixative effect ; for this reason, however, it is used (both synthetic and natural) as a base ingredient in many perfumes. With the end of sperm whale hunting years ago, ambergris, already scarce, has become even rarer. It is obtained only from stranded animals or from masses found on ocean shores. The scarcity of natural products, combined with regulatory restrictions (both on the use and importation) of this famous animal raw material, has directed research towards synthetic and/or semi-synthetic alternatives. Our exclusive 13.5 ml (0.46 fl. oz.) bottle made of special transparent neutral glass enhances the chromatic properties of the various oils: each is visible in its natural color, completely unique like the scent it releases. Each bottle is equipped with a special heat-shrinkable transparent polymer seal to guarantee (in accordance with the regulations) its tamper-proof nature.

Affinity

Our Ambergris fragrance harmonizes well with oriental perfumes with amber and/or musky notes.

Uses

Excellent (and well-known) personal perfume, it is used in high-class perfumery (especially in musky oriental notes).
