Extraction

Cinnamon essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of leaves and twigs and appears as an amber-yellow liquid with a warm, spicy, slightly pungent scent. It blends well with the essential oils of orange, frankincense, mandarin, olibanum, ylang-ylang, and benzoin absolute.

Property

In the East, cinnamon has a millennia-old tradition as a remedy for a wide range of ailments (nausea, colds, flu, digestive problems, etc.).
Cinnamon essential oil, generally non-toxic and slightly irritating, has numerous medicinal properties, being simultaneously antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiputrefactive, aphrodisiac, astringent, hemostatic, parasiticide, refrigerant, stimulant, and vermifuge. It is also excellent for combating mental fatigue and nervous tension.

Uses

Cinnamon essential oil is used in the production of soaps, cosmetics and perfumes with a spicy note.

Botany

Native to Madagascar, Ceylon, and Indochina, cinnamon is now also cultivated in India, Jamaica, and Africa. It is a tropical evergreen tree up to fifteen meters tall, with sturdy branches, thick bark, leathery, glossy green leaves, and small white flowers.
