Extraction

Natural geranium essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the plant's leaves, stalks, and flowers. It appears as a clear, deep green liquid with a powerful, spicy, pinkish-green scent. It blends excellently with the essential oils of bergamot, clove, juniper, neroli, patchouli, ravensara, sandalwood, and all citrus oils.

Property

Geranium has been used in herbal medicine since ancient times, especially as a remedy for digestive ailments. Geranium
essential oil, non-toxic and non-irritating, has antidepressant, healing, deodorant, fungicidal, and vulnerary properties; it is an excellent remedy for acne, dermatitis, eczema, burns, and parasites. It is also well-known as an insect repellent: well before the invention of DDT, for generations, the most effective mosquito preventative was an ointment prepared with geranium oil mixed with citronella essential oil and/or cedarwood essential oil. This beneficial effect can be fully exploited using a diffuser.

Uses

Geranium has been used in herbal medicine since ancient times, especially as a remedy for digestive ailments.
A highly prized essential oil, it is used as a fragrance component in cosmetics of all kinds.
In the food industry (in its pure form), it is a widely used flavoring.

Botany

Also known as "Pelargonium", geranium is native to southern Africa and is cultivated in several countries, primarily Réunion, Egypt, and Russia, where most of the essential oil is produced. It is a shrubby plant with a bushy habit, up to one meter and twenty centimeters tall, entirely aromatic, with peltate leaves and small pink flowers. Including hybrids, there are approximately seven hundred varieties.
