Property
Russian birch essential oil, unlike that of American birch, is completely non-toxic and non-irritating; possessing anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and tonic properties, it is effective in the treatment of eczema and dermatitis. In Europe, the tar extracted from birch bark has been used for centuries as a medicine for various chronic skin conditions.
Uses
Birch essential oil is used in pharmacy to formulate hair care products such as shampoos and lotions. In perfumery, the famous "leather" note is obtained primarily thanks to this essential oil.
Botany
The birch is native to the Northern Hemisphere and is present throughout Eastern Europe, as well as in Germany, Scandinavia, northern China, Russia, and Japan. It is a slender tree reaching twenty meters in height, with silvery-white bark and oval, light green leaves.
