Extraction
Neroli essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of fresh orange blossom petals and appears as a clear, ochre-yellow liquid with a fresh, delicate floral scent whose base note is reminiscent of the velvety scent of bergamot. The yield from this process is very low.
Affinity
A notoriously precious raw material, Neroli essential oil harmonizes very well with almost any essential oil, especially with citrus oils as well as with those of: Matricaria chamomile, Coriander, Geranium, Lavender, Opoponax, Parsley, Rose, Clary sage, Ylang ylang and even with Benzoin absolute.
Property
Neroli essential oil takes its name from Duchess Anna Maria Orsini, Princess of Neroli, who loved using it as a personal perfume; non-toxic and non-irritating, it is a true natural antidepressant. Its toning properties make it excellent for treating scars, stretch marks, and mature skin in general.
Uses
Neroli essential oil is typically used as a fragrance component and fixative in high-end perfumery (citrus notes). It is occasionally used in the food industry.
Botany
The fragrant white flowers of the orange tree produce the highly prized oil known as "Neroli " or " Orange Blossom" essence.
Native to the Far East and well adapted to the Mediterranean climate, the orange tree is a small evergreen tree up to ten meters tall, with oval, glossy dark green leaves, long thorns, and smooth branches. Highly disease-resistant, it is widely used for grafting with other citrus plants.
