The essential oil extracted from its leaves, completely non-toxic and non-irritating, has antiseptic, purifying, and stimulating properties. When applying it to the skin, avoid sunlight, as it is phototoxic.
Uses
A precious and sought-after aromatic raw material, Lovage essential oil is traditionally used as a flavoring agent in perfumery, soap making, liqueur making, and tobacco products.
Botany
Also known as "mountain celery", Lovage is native to southern Europe and western Asia and has also become naturalized in North America. It is a large, aromatic, herbaceous perennial plant that grows up to two meters tall and has a hollow stem, fleshy root, and dense foliage. It grows wild in mountain pastures.
