Norway spruce essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of needles and twigs. It is a nearly colorless liquid with a rich and pleasant sweet-balsamic scent.

Botany
Also known as "Norway spruce", the Spruce is a majestic conifer, up to sixty meters tall. It has a narrow, conical crown, pointed needle-like leaves, cylindrical cones facing downward, and a characteristic thin, reddish bark. It is found in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines (near the Abetone Pass) and grows wild throughout almost the entire Italian Alpine range, as well as in some Alpine districts of Germany. It is no longer found in Austria.
