Botany
Native to eastern India, the lemon tree grows wild throughout the Mediterranean basin and in Portugal. It is widely cultivated worldwide, particularly in Sicily, Cyprus, Guinea, and Israel.
It is a small evergreen tree up to six meters tall, with serrated, smooth oval leaves, strong thorns, and fragrant white flowers.
The fruit, initially green, turns yellow as it ripens. In many Mediterranean regions, the lemon is still considered a true panacea.
