Extraction

Peppermint essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the entire flowering plant and is commonly dementholized to prevent it from solidifying. It is a clear, almost colorless liquid with a pungent, minty, herbaceous scent, similar to peppermint.

Property

Field Mint essential oil, completely non-toxic and non-irritating (except at high concentrations), has balsamic, antiseptic, and analgesic properties.
It blends well with Benzoin absolute and the essential oils of Bucchus, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Marjoram, Rosemary, and other mints.

Uses

Field mint essential oil is used in mouthwashes, toothpastes, disinfectants, detergents, and industrial fragrances.
It is used as a flavoring agent in confectionery, liqueurs, soaps, and perfumes, as well as in chewing gum. Its most important use is as an essential raw material for isolating natural menthol.

Botany

Native to Europe and some Asian regions such as China and Japan, mint now grows wild throughout North America.
It is a fragile herbaceous plant up to sixty centimeters tall with lanceolate leaves and flowers clustered in terminal spikelets.
Most of the oil is produced in India, China, and South America.
