Extraction

Birch essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of leaf buds and is a very dark brown liquid with a characteristic woody-smoky scent and balsamic undertones. It blends well with the essential oils of copaiba, cedarwood, patchouli, vetiver, and balsamic oils in general.

Properties

Russian birch essential oil, unlike American birch essential oil, is completely non-toxic and non-irritating; possessing anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and tonic properties, it is effective in the treatment of eczema and dermatitis.

Uses

Birch essential oil is used in pharmacy to formulate hair care products such as shampoos and lotions. In perfumery, the famous "leather" note is achieved primarily thanks to this essential oil.
