INDIAN SPIKENARDPerfume
Originally from the mountainous regions of northern India, spikenard is a delicate aromatic plant that grows to a height of one metre. It has pink flowers and pungent rhizomes.
Spikenard grows at altitudes up to 5.000 metres on the mountain slopes of the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush. It's also found in the mountainous regions of Sikkim and Panir, and in China and Japan.
EXTRACTION
OLFACTIVE AFFINITIES
The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the rhizomes and the dried, pressed roots. An amber-yellow liquid, it combines well with the essential oils of cistus, lavender, oakmoss, patchouli, dwarf pine, valerian, vetiver and spice oils. Spikenard oil is difficult to find, extremely costly and of little use as a fragrance in its own right: it must first be subjected to complex processing.

Spikenard was one of the first aromatic substances ever used by the ancient Egyptians. It is mentioned in the Song of Solomon, and its oil was used by Mary to anoint Jesus before the Last Supper.
Spikenard was one of the eleven herbs used in the incense burned in the Temple of Jerusalem. Natural spikenard oil is traditionally held to have anti-inflammatory, tonic, bactericide and fungicide properties. Totally non-toxic and non-irritant, it is difficult to find and its uses are extremely limited.
Our indian spikenard oil recreates the fragrance of one of the most celebrated scents of Antiquity (the Nardinium) made by processing the natural concrete extracted from the flowers (not the roots) of the spikenard. This job was performed by the unguentarii or master perfumers of ancient Rome.
Our spikenard scented oil is a highly appreciated essence with a strong, characteristic scent that’s sweet and woody, almost animalic, with a floral undertone. It is excellent as a personal fragrance and is used as an aromatic agent in luxury cosmetics and fine fragrances.
