MOROCCAN CHAMOMILEOrmenis multicaulis (Asteracee)
Origin: Morocco
Originally found in northwest Africa and Andalusia, Moroccan camomile has now spread throughout the Mediterranean region as far as Israel.
A very pretty plant, Camomile grows to a height of one hundred and twenty centimetres. It has tomentose leaves and yellow tubular flowers.
EXTRACTION OLFACTIVE AFFINITIES The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flower tops and is a clear, yellow-brown liquid with a sweet, fresh, grassy-balmy fragrance. The scent is quite different from those of the essential oils of Camomilla matricaria and Camomilla romana. It combines well with the essential oils of Citron, Cypress, Frankincense, Labdanum, Lavender, Mugwort, Vetiver and Oakmoss absolute oil.
PROPERTIES (according to popular herbalist tradition) Although the essential oil of Moroccan camomile is used in aromatherapy as a treatment for migraine, we still know little of its effective therapeutic properties and its traditional applications. It's generally non-toxic and non-irritating, and is known to have sedative properties.
It's widely used in the perfume industry, especially in the production of eau de cologne and chypre fragrances.
